3.3 Jesus Forgives Our Sins - Healing of the Paralyzed Man

Lesson from March 16, 2014

Memory Verse:  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. - Galatians 2:20
Remember to pray.  Pray that God would show you things in this story that help you to know him better.
Read or listen to the story of Jesus healing the paralyzed man.  You can find it in Mark 2:1-12.

Miss Becky reading Mark 2:1-12.

How did the paralyzed man get to Jesus?  Draw a picture or answer in words.
When Jesus told the paralyzed man that his sins were forgiven, who do you think was happy?  Who do you think was sad or angry?  Why? Write or draw a picture about how people felt.
Sins are things that we do that are not what God wants us to do. (Not doing something that God wants us to do is another kind of sin.) All of us sin.  Jesus is the only person who has ever lived who did not sin. What is something you have done that was sinful?  Are you sorry that you did it? Have you asked Jesus to forgive you? Draw a picture of you doing something wrong (or just write about it.)  Then draw a picture of how it feels to be forgiven.

Memory Verse Review I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. - Galatians 2:20. When you are learning a new memory verse one of the most important things to do is to understand what it means.  This verse is filled with some complicated ideas. There are lots of ways to begin to understand something that is new and hard.  Ask God to help you understand it and then do one or more of these things. Talk to an older Christian about it (your mother, your father, a grandparent, a teacher, a big brother or sister). If we had time, we may have already talked about the verse in Kid Zone. Find a way to learn about the verse from a book or the internet.  Miss Becky's Bible Blog will have something to say about this verse. Write something or draw a picture that will remind you of what you learned.  What does it mean to be crucified with Christ and to now live by faith in the Son of God?

Looking Ahead to Next Week. Next week, we will talk about Jesus healing several different people.  One of the stories is about Jesus healing a woman when she touched his clothes.  You can find it in Mark 5: 24-34. Ask God to show you a picture in your mind of what this was like.  Draw it here (in your journal) or write down some things that you notice about the story.

3.2 God's Spirit Gives Us Power-Temptation in the Desert

To those of you waiting to hear your silly voices on line:  They will be coming soon, I hope.  I got caught with a kind of time crunch on my job, and have to put that first.

Lesson from March 9, 2014

Memory Verse:  "And he died for all that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again." - 2 Corinthians 5:15

Here is a song to help with the memory verse.
Don't forget to pray before you begin to study the Bible.  Ask God to open the ears of your heart so that you can hear him more clearly inside your heart.
Read or listen to the story to Jesus being tempted in the wilderness.  You can find that story in Matthew 4:1-11.  While you listen, ask God to show you a picture in your imagination of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness.  Draw a picture or write about one thing that you notice.
Miss Becky reading Matthew 4:1-11.

Jesus was tempted.  What was Jesus tempted to do? How did Jesus resist temptation?

Jesus was tempted but didn't sin.  What kinds of things are temptations for you? How can you resist temptation the way that Jesus did?  Make it specific.  What is one temptation that you face, and what would help you to resist it?

Memory Verse Review "And he died for all that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again." - 2 Corinthians 5:15 One great way to review a verse is to copy it.  How many times can you write the verse here? (In your journal).  If you don't read and write very well yet, pick one word in the verse to learn how to read and practice writing it.

Looking Ahead to Next Week. Read or listen to the story of Jesus healing the paralyzed man.  You can find it in Mark 2:1-12. Ask God to show you a picture in your mind of what this was like.  Draw it here or write down some things that you notice about this story.

3.1- John the Baptist - God Prepares the Way

Lesson from March 2, 2014

Memory Verse:  And he died for all that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.  - 2 Corinthians 5:15

Here is a song that might help with the memory verse.

We're going to try something different.  Some of you have complained because you can't read the lessons, or the questions in the journals.  It's still a good idea to work with your parents, or with an older brother or sister, but sometimes parents are very busy and not everyone has an older brother or sister to help them. So I'm going to tell the stories and read the questions.   Click on the controls above the text next to the pictures to hear me talk.
Don’t forget to pray.  Pray that God would open your heart more and more fully to Himself.
Read or Listen to the story about John the Baptist.  Start with Matthew 3:1-6.  Ask God to show you a picture in your head about what this was like.  Draw a picture of John or the things that he ate.  If you don't like to draw, tell in words what you imagine John was like.  Do you think he looked like a normal person of the time or was he unusual?
Miss Becky reading the first part of the story about John the Baptist.
Read or listen to the story of John's preaching to the crowds and baptizing Jesus.  You can find it in Matthew 3:11-17.  Ask God to show you what the most important thing is for you to notice in the story.  Draw a picture or write something about what that is.
Miss Becky reading the story of John baptizing Jesus.
God sent John to prepare the way for Jesus.  Did you know that God also prepares the way for you? The Bible says in Ephesians 2:10 that we are created by God in Christ Jesus to do good works that God has prepared in advance for us to do. Ask Jesus to show you something today that he has prepared for you to do.  Then do it. What did he show you?  What did you do?

Looking ahead to next week: Read or listen to the story of Jesus' Temptation in the Wilderness.  You can find it in Matthew 4:1-11. Ask God to show you a picture in you mind of what this was like.  Draw it here or write some of the things that you notice about this story.

Almost Ready

Really, truly, I am almost ready for the new format for the posts.

At least, I hope so.  I learned today that Blogspot has a special quirk which means that I have to put all the audio in at the same time, and not go back and fuss with it after that.

So I cannot post most of it, and then come back and finish it up.

I hope if we do not lose power in this coming storm that I will have the John the Baptist lesson ready for you to listen to on Monday.  I hope you'll check back then.

Coming Soon

I apologize for not posting recently.  I have been working hard to learn some new computer skills to be able to do better Bible learning tools.
Beginning in March, when you will get your new journals (if you are part of Kid Zone), you will be able to hear the stories, and have me read the questions to you here.  Check back then to see.

Lesson 2.7 God is Strength: Entering the Promised Land

Getting Ready for January 12, 2014

Christmas is over, and it's time to face the New Year.  I'm putting the advent calendar away now.

Are there things that you are planning to do differently this year?  Tell me about them.

Let me mention that there is a glitch in the journals, which list this lesson and the next one for January 19.  Sorry about that.

     Hebrews 12:11

"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."

There are many sorts of "disciplines".  When a parent corrects their child, putting him or her in time out, or scolding them, that is discipline.  If it made you feel good, it wouldn't work very well to teach you not to do things you shouldn't be doing.

But there are other kinds of discipline too.

It is discipline when an athlete trains to play at his or her very best.

It is discipline when you learn to play a musical instrument and have to practice every day.

It is discipline when you learn to make your bed every morning when you get up, or even to brush your teeth.

It is discipline when you learn to do chores around the house.

It is discipline when someone says "No thankyou" to something they would very much like to eat, because they are trying to lose weight.

When we begin making any of these things a habit, it is NO FUN!  It is painful because it means doing something we may not want to do, at a time when we just don't feel like it.  Even if it is discipline in order to learn to do something we love, there is a lot of hard work involved and there are times when we don't want to do it, when doing it is painful for us.

We do these things (or our parents make us do them) because we know that it will work to make us better people in the long run.  Doing just about anything that we don't want to makes us better able to go against our selfish wills later on.  We or our parents can pick what things we want to concentrate on, whether it's doing homework, or memorizing Bible verses, or reading the Bible each day and praying. We can also trust that God is disciplining us to make us better when we go through hard times in our lives.  It's not that God is punishing us, but He does work to make us stronger.  The discipline produces a harvest in our lives--that means that something good comes from the discipline.  The harvest is righteousness and peace, and it comes to those who let themselves be trained by discipline.

     Joshua 1:9

I think that there is one difference between the words of this song and the version of the verse that we are working on memorizing.  They sing 'Do not be terrified" and we are trying to learn it as "Do not be afraid."

   James 1:22

When God told the people to enter the promised land, the River Jordan was at flood stage.
God told Joshua to have the ark carried into the river.

While the ark was in the river, the people were able to cross through on dry land.

God told Joshua to have the people carry one rock to represent each tribe out of the  river bottom so that they would always rmember what God had done for them.

Advent Calendar

Clicking on this picture will bring you to the advent calendar.  There are stories, things to think about, games, and songs for every day of December before Jesus's birthday.  Let me know what you think.  I want to have this ready to share with more people next year.

If you are trying to do this via a phone or I-Pad, try the link below.  Not everything will work, and it's not as pretty, but it will take you to all the parts of the calendar that you CAN use on these machines.
