3.3 Jesus Forgives Our Sins - Healing of the Paralyzed Man

Lesson from March 16, 2014


Memory Verse:  I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. - Galatians 2:20

Remember to pray.  Pray that God would show you things in this story that help you to know him better.

Read or listen to the story of Jesus healing the paralyzed man.  You can find it in Mark 2:1-12.

  How did the paralyzed man get to Jesus?  Draw a picture or answer in words.

When Jesus told the paralyzed man that his sins were forgiven, who do you think was happy?  Who do you think was sad or angry?  Why? Write or draw a picture about how people felt.

Sins are things that we do that are not what God wants us to do. (Not doing something that God wants us to do is another kind of sin.) All of us sin.  Jesus is the only person who has ever lived who did not sin. What is something you have done that was sinful?  Are you sorry that you did it? Have you asked Jesus to forgive you? Draw a picture of you doing something wrong (or just write about it.)  Then draw a picture of how it feels to be forgiven.

When you are learning a new memory verse one of the most important things to do is to understand what it means.  This verse is filled with some complicated ideas. There are lots of ways to begin to understand something that is new and hard.  Ask God to help you understand it and then do one or more of these things. Talk to an older Christian about it (your mother, your father, a grandparent, a teacher, a big brother or sister). If we had time, we may have already talked about the verse in Kid Zone. Find a way to learn about the verse from a book or the internet.  Miss Becky's Bible Blog will have something to say about this verse. Write something or draw a picture that will remind you of what you learned.  What does it mean to be crucified with Christ and to now live by faith in the Son of God?

Don't forget to pray before you begin to study the Bible.  Ask God to open the ears of your heart so that you can hear him more clearly inside your heart.

Read or listen to the story to Jesus being tempted in the wilderness.  You can find that story in Matthew 4:1-11.  While you listen, ask God to show you a picture in your imagination of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness.  Draw a picture or write about one thing that you notice.

Jesus was tempted.  What was Jesus tempted to do? How did Jesus resist temptation?






  Jesus was tempted but didn't sin.  What kinds of things are temptations for you? How can you resist temptation the way that Jesus did?  Make it specific.  What is one temptation that you face, and what would help you to resist it?

(In your journal).  If you don't read and write very well yet, pick one word in the verse to learn how to read and practice writing it.

3.1- John the Baptist - God Prepares the Way

We're going to try something different.  Some of you have complained because you can't read the lessons, or the questions in the journals.  It's still a good idea to work with your parents, or with an older brother or sister, but sometimes parents are very busy and not everyone has an older brother or sister to help them. So I'm going to tell the stories and read the questions.   Click on the controls above the text next to the pictures to hear me talk.

Don’t forget to pray.  Pray that God would open your heart more and more fully to Himself.

Read or Listen to the story about John the Baptist.  Start with Matthew 3:1-6.  Ask God to show you a picture in your head about what this was like.  Draw a picture of John or the things that he ate.  If you don't like to draw, tell in words what you imagine John was like.  Do you think he looked like a normal person of the time or was he unusual?

Read or listen to the story of John's preaching to the crowds and baptizing Jesus.  You can find it in Matthew 3:11-17.  Ask God to show you what the most important thing is for you to notice in the story.  Draw a picture or write something about what that is.

God sent John to prepare the way for Jesus.  Did you know that God also prepares the way for you? The Bible says in Ephesians 2:10 that we are created by God in Christ Jesus to do good works that God has prepared in advance for us to do. Ask Jesus to show you something today that he has prepared for you to do.  Then do it. What did he show you?  What did you do?

Almost Ready

Really, truly, I am almost ready for the new format for the posts.

At least, I hope so.  I learned today that Blogspot has a special quirk which means that I have to put all the audio in at the same time, and not go back and fuss with it after that.

So I cannot post most of it, and then come back and finish it up.

I hope if we do not lose power in this coming storm that I will have the John the Baptist lesson ready for you to listen to on Monday.  I hope you'll check back then.
